A woman was shocked at the state of her seaside hometown after returning to it for the first time in years - even though it was once one of the UK's premier destinations. 68-year-old Penny Colegate, who currently lives in Hampshire, was appalled when she took a trip to her former stomping ground in Llandudno to find its streets littered with rubbish and broken glass which she described as a 'health hazard'. Not only this, but the town's run-down appearance is also tarnishing its reputation as a nice place to visit, according to Penny.
She reached out to to describe how Llandudno was 'dirty bordering on filthy' and worlds away from what it was when she last visited 13 years ago. Penny, who once worked in the Conwy resort, was met with cans, bottles and takeaway wrappers flooding the pavements when she returned on her nostalgic visit. She said: “Seeing the town like this really upset me.
Llandudno is the premier tourist destination in North Wales and to say it was dirty is an understatement." It was her first trip back to North Wales since moving to Basingstoke 13 years ago following her ex-husband’s death. She said: "As soon as I stepped out of the Travelodge, I saw a side road full of litter that was tumbling towards me in the wind.
"The whole place was filthy. Everywhere there were Coke cans, plastic bottles, serviettes and fast food wrappers. Cigarette butts too.
