GUILDERLAND - Schoharie’s Apple Barrel Store + Cafe is expanding with a second location in Guilderland’s Stuyvesant Plaza. Called Apple Barrel Home + Pantré, it will offer pantry provisions alongside a variety of kitchen and dining accessories and home decor, according to an announcement. It’ll also feature Apple Barrel Café to Go, with soups, sauces and pre-made meals.
Established as a farm stand in the aftermath of World War II, Apple Barrel was initially a retail outpost for neighboring orchards in Schoharie. The Loden family took over the business in 1983. The Schoharie cafe and country store typically attracts 70,000 visitors a year, according to the announcement.
Starting a new venture closer to the heart of the Capital Region made sense for the company, said Apple Barrel Group, LLC Chief Operating Officer Joshua Loden-Bray. “With 80% of our clientele hailing from beyond Schoharie County—particularly from Albany, Saratoga Springs and Schenectady—expanding our business was a logical step.” The shop is set to open mid-summer between BARE Blends and The Book House, on the north side of the Plaza.
It’ll host a series of plant/craft and sip classes and Loden-Bray is also working with European importers to bring in luxury food and kitchen products, and working with local artisans on collaborative collections. For more information on Apple Barrel, visit shopapplebarrel.com .
