Plans to redevelop a huge warehousing space have taken another step forward. This comes after manufacturer Essity announced it was leaving its former home on Mansell Way, near the junction of De Havilland Way and Chorley New Road, in Horwich . A new Aldi store is already planned for the site while Essity leaving means a scheme to demolish and rebuild two sets of warehouse spaces should soon proceed.
Cllr David Grant, of Horwich South and Blackrod, said: “One of our concerns is that for the Aldi, they’re going to have to construct a new entrance for the site on De Havilland Way. “It used to be an old Tesco and Tesco have a covenant on the site meaning no other shopping business can use that part of the site.” The plans have been put before Bolton Council (Image: Stantec) He added: “Horwich and Blackrod First have spoken to the architects of the new Aldi to find out why they couldn’t use the same entrance as the Tesco but it's something they’ve got a restriction on.
” Essity will be leaving the Mansell Way site after reaching an agreement to use new warehousing space at the Wingates Industrial Estate. Plans for the new Aldi were announced in April 2022 sparking concerns about increased traffic in the area around De Havilland Way and the Beehive Roundabout. But the following August, Aldi said it was putting its plans on hold before "refining" them to take account of concerns like these.
