A teenager in Arkansas was rushed to the hospital after his vaping addiction caused his urine to turn black due to severe dehydration. Jake Melton, 15, became critically ill earlier this month after experiencing extreme dizziness, nausea, and bloodshot eyes. Jake had gone to school earlier in the day and said he felt “like everything in [his] body was hurting,” the Daily Mail reported .

After he fell unconscious at the hospital, doctors carried out tests and found that Jake was suffering from extreme dehydration and risk of kidney damage due to his constant vaping. Jake remained unconscious in the hospital for over 30 hours, but he has said he is “addicted” and has no plans to stop vaping.
Nicotine - present in some vapes - is known to dehydrate the body and impact the body’s balance of fluid and salt. Melony Sample, Jake’s mother, blames her son’s dehydration on his job, in which he works part-time laying rocks and “overexerts” himself. Melony said she was unaware her son had been smoking “the equivalent of five cigarettes a day” and had started using menthol nicotine pods, the Daily Mail reported.
