Thursday, June 6, 2024 Las Vegas Sands has donated $100,000 through Sands Cares to Teach for America (TFA) Nevada to support recruitment efforts and the RootED Fellowship. This funding aims to attract and retain high-performing teachers for high-need classrooms in Southern Nevada. The Sands Cares contributions address Southern Nevada’s severe teacher shortages and will help TFA Nevada work towards its goal of establishing a network of 800 TFA education leaders in the region by 2025.

This initiative aims to enhance the quality and equity of education and improve student outcomes. TFA Nevada, the local branch of the national organization Teach for America, focuses on developing equity-oriented leaders to transform education and expand opportunities for all children. Founded in 1990, Teach for America recruits and trains diverse leaders who commit to teaching in high-need schools for two years, often continuing as lifelong advocates for educational equity.

In the 2023-24 school year, TFA Nevada had 87 corps members working in over 50 partner schools, primarily within the Clark County School District. “This Sands Cares contribution is an investment in Nevada’s future,” Sean Parker, executive director, at Teach for America Nevada, said. “This critical support helps us recruit and retain diverse and talented educational leaders who accelerate the progress of young Nevadans in their journey toward economic mobility.
