We love it when queens support queens. On Tuesday, Sabrina Carpenter visited the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform a rendition of “ Good Luck, Babe ” by her Island Records labelmate, Chappell Roan . The hit took off around the same time her own track, “ Espresso ,” became the song of the summer.
In the video, Carpenter performed a stripped-back version of Roan’s track, adding a country twang to her pronunciation of the catchy lyrics: “You can say it’s just the way you are/Make a new excuse, another stupid reason.” The new cover comes just a day after Carpenter spoke to Rolling Stone and revealed she had the Roan hit on “ loopty loop ” and that she plays her music “all the time.” “I’ve been just as obsessed with her as everyone has,” Carpenter said of Roan in a profile.
“It’s so weird when you’re hanging out as two young women as opposed to thinking about when she goes onstage and is that person and when I go on stage.” Carpenter also performed her own track “ Please Please Please ” during the BBC Radio 1 segment. (Just last month, Wallows delivered a cover of Carpenter’s “Espresso” in the same Live Lounge.
