RTE star Donncha O’Callaghan bid an emotional farewell on air on his last 2FM radio show this morning. The former Ireland rugby ace has become the fifth big-name host to quit the channel in a matter of weeks. The Cork native co-hosted Breakfast with Carl Mullen and Aifric O’Connell - who replaced Doireann Garrihy after she departed less than a month ago.
The 45-year-old had been presenting the show for the last three years, since May 31, 2021. Donncha confirmed just last Tuesday that he made the difficult decision to step away from the beloved show. The dad-of-four took a few moment at the end of his final show this morning to thank his 2FM team and loyal listeners for their support over the years.
He said: "To everyone in the room, I know I should feel sad but I don't - I'm so happy. I've loved every minute of it. "I'm so grateful and appreciative for an unbelievable opportunity and that's because I was around really great people.
" Donncha told his producer Grace that he's "better for being around her". He also told his pal and co-host Carl that he's like the "little brother" he "never wanted". Speaking to his listeners, Donncha said: "Thank you so much.
I make mistakes but I got constant support from people. "Last night I was coming through town and someone gave me a hug and said, 'We're going to miss you man!'. "Honestly, it was never taken for granted on me.
I wouldn't have been able to do it if it wasn't for your unbelievable support. "Thank you so much. I loved ever.
