Chandigarh: The Rotary Club of Chandigarh has dedicated a hall of fame for humanitarian aid workers Rtn. Rajendra K. Saboo and his wife Usha Saboo by displaying choicest memorabilia from Saboo’s personal collection, including gifts from heads of states from around the world.
As per the club, the work of the two has added soul to this city beautiful with numerous contributions through their humanitarian projects. Padma Bhushan Rajendra K. Shaboo had shifted from Kolkata to set up the country's first needle manufacturing facility in Chandigarh with German collaboration.
They adopted the city and nurtured it with their friendship, caring and empathetic way, responding to the needs of the people, whether it was gifting a funeral van to the city, to Rotary PGI Serai, the free heart surgeries of children in need, the Blood Bank, or vocational training centre or sending sweets to Army jawans on border during Diwali. After serving as the world president of Rotary International in 1991-92, Rajendra K. Saboo, immersed himself into social work and brought laurel to the country by leading teams of doctors to serve beyond borders in many African continent since 1998.
“We cannot repay to their vision and contribution to humanity,” said president of Rotary Club of Chandigarh Anil Chadda. Past presidents of the Club, Charanjit Singh and Manmohan Singh Kohli, recalled their association with the Saboo family..
