Scott Rodwin — a pioneer in green building in Boulder and beyond — started his firm Rodwin Architecture in 1999. Then, a couple years later, he added Skycastle Construction . He wanted to bring back the “master builder approach” that was more common a century ago, but ultimately yields better results for clients.
Through this streamlined approach, extraordinary, energy-efficient homes can be built on time, on budget and with thoughtful customizations throughout homes. “Design and construction is a complicated process and it tends to go best when the three sides —the architect, the builder and the client — work as closely together as possible,” Rodwin says. As a bonus, his business partner Brandon David, the President and General Contractor of Skycastle Construction, has an architectural degree in addition to a strong construction background, a winning combination.
“When we come up with a beautiful design, I know it’s going to get followed through to all of the final details,” Rodwin says. David, he says, is able to see the intention behind the design and protect and steward it on the build side. During the last 25 years in business, the firm has completed 80 projects in the Boulder area with a dozen under construction.
The 33-person firm, with 17 on the architecture side and 16 on construction, has won 50 design awards plus dozens of service accolades. Projects have achieved the highest levels of third party certifications from EnergyStar, LEED Platinum,.
