ROCHESTER — Rochester fans of discount retailer Ross Dress for Less will have more than just Independence Day to celebrate this month as the new Ross store plans to open its doors later this month. California-based Ross, which describes itself as “the largest off-price apparel and home fashion chain in the United States,” recently announced its new Rochester store at 4603 Maine Ave. will host a grand opening on July 20.
The 25,400-square-foot Ross location is next to the recently opened Burlington store. The two discount brands renovated and divided up the former Dick's Sporting Goods Big Box building. Both the Ross and Burlington stores are now located between Target and Old Navy in the Shoppes on Maine commercial area.
This is the second Minnesota location for Ross. It opened its first one in St. Cloud in early 2024.
Ross has more than 1,700 stores in the U.S. For comparison, competitor TJ Maxx has more than 1,300.
ADVERTISEMENT "We believe Minnesota provides a great opportunity to grow Ross’ brand presence nationally," wrote Connie Kao , group vice president of investor and media relations at Ross Stores, in 2023. The Ross and Burlington duo are bringing life back to space that has been empty for seven years. Dick’s opened the Rochester store in 2007 in the then-new Shoppes on Maine commercial area.
It opened soon after Target, the retail center’s anchor tenant. Dick’s closed in 2017. Excluding the Target store, that commercial complex is owned by Berengaria .
