Cork Olympic legend Rob Heffernan has shared his favourite place to holiday in Ireland will always be his home county. The race walker has great memories of travelling around Cork - from his childhood trips to Youghal to moving into the 5* Castlemartyr resort following his World Championship win. The Togher native added that Irish food will always come first.

Rob told RSVP Magazine : "We stayed in Castlemartyr for just over a week when I won the World Championships back in 2013." "I did a gig there recently and it brought all the memories back to me. The whole backdrop is beautiful.

It's only less than 30 minutes away from where I live in Cork. It's a real hidden gem." They're beautiful. Sligo is also a great spot and the beaches there are amazing. We spent a week staying in a friend's mobile home up there.

" "We took the time to relax because the sea and the walks are lovely. It's a different kind of culture to Cork, so it really feels like you're away. West Cork is also beautiful.

" Rob spent his childhood summers in Youghal with his family, visiting the East Cork seaside town every year when he was growing up. He said: "We owned a mobile home in Redbarn. We spent the whole summer on the beach and it was a very simple life.
