Saturday, May 25, 2024 The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Richmond International Airport (RIC) processed a record number of passengers on Thursday, May 23rd, exceeding the previous record established in 2023. TSA officers screened a remarkable 9,857 individuals, contributing to the second-highest nationwide passenger screening total in TSA’s history. This surge in passenger volume coincides with the traditionally busy Memorial Day Weekend travel period.

Facilitating a Seamless Travel Experience: To ensure a smooth and efficient travel experience for all passengers during this peak period, RIC and TSA recommend the following: Early Arrival: Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport a minimum of two hours prior to domestic flight departures and three hours before international flights. This timeframe allows for efficient check-in procedures, security screening, and potential delays. Security Preparation: Familiarizing oneself with TSA’s carry-on baggage restrictions can significantly expedite the security screening process.

Passengers can leverage the “Can I Bring?” feature readily available on the TSA website or mobile application to confirm permissible carry-on items. MyTSA App: Downloading the MyTSA app provides real-time access to valuable information, including security procedures, estimated wait times, and a searchable database of acceptable carry-on items. TSA PreCheck Benefits: Consider enrolling in TSA PreCheck, an expedited screening pro.
