As the summer holidays draw closer, many North East holidaymakers will soon be flying away for a trip in the sun. But as we all know, there’s nothing worse than starting your holiday hanging around for hours in the airport waiting for a delayed flight. And data has revealed that some routes are particularly bad for punctuality - with more than two in three flights being delayed on the worst airline route in Newcastle.

Analysis of the latest figures from the Civil Aviation Authority reveals that 68% of Jet2 flights from Newcastle to Malaga were delayed by at least 15 minutes in the 12 months to April. It’s the worst record of any route in the UK that saw more than 100 flights in the last year. They were followed by Jet2 flights to Faro (63%) and Tenerife Sur Reina Sofia Airport (62%), and TUI flights to Mallorca (60%). In fact, most of the top 10 most-delayed airline routes from Newcastle airport were Jet2 flights.
