On Thursday, May 2, 2024, the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) council meeting in Paris hosted a special event focused on Franco-Japanese tourism. Organized by the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), the event highlighted the richness of Japanese food and culture, presented by the Japan Food Product Overseas Promotion Center (JFOODO).

Several exquisite culinary preparations showcased ingredients like Japanese scallops and Wagyu beef from the Hokuriku region, selected to support earthquake victims in northern Japan. The event, attended by approximately 120 guests, included a seminar and a reception. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was present and expressed his desire to see an increase in French visitors to Japan during his seminar speech.

Esteemed French chef Pierre Gagnaire, known for his three-star restaurant, also participated, sharing his admiration for Japanese cuisine and its rich gastronomic heritage. Chef Yuichiro Akiyoshi from a Michelin-starred Parisian restaurant led the culinary presentation themed “It’s time for Japanese snacks!” He showcased dishes featuring Japanese scallops, Wagyu beef, and seasonal vegetable specialties suitable for vegans, as well as traditional Japanese cakes called.
