England fans hoping for a historic victory tonight in the Euro 2024 final can see a Red Arrows flyover beforehand in parts of the country. A summer that started with underwhelming performances and grumbles from fans and pundits alike ends in Berlin with just a third ever final appearance at a major tournament. Gareth Southgate ’s side reached their first European final against Italy at Wembley in 2021 which they lost in heartbreaking fashion on penalties.
And now they hope to go one better but they are up against an impressive Spain side who have their own trophy dreams at the cavernous Olympiastadion. Thousands of England fans are in the German capital for the final but back home people have made plans up and down the country for how they are going to watch it. And for some lucky supporters in the North West will be able to catch a view of the RAF’s iconic Red Arrows before the match kicks off.
The fighter pilots will be taking part in the Southport Air Show on Merseyside this afternoon and then in the evening they will fly from Liverpool to their base at RAF Waddington. The Red Arrows, or the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team to give them their official name, will be one of the highlights of the weekend for the tens of thousands of guests that attend the Southport Air Show and their display begins at 4.30pm and will last for around 20 minutes.
