The sun may only be making an appearance, but that doesn’t mean we need it to look healthy and glowy this summer. On a recent trip to see Charli XCX perform her new album, , Gerber’s sunbaked skin shone as she posed for photos with friends. But you didn’t think Gerber was actually a sun worshipper, did you? For a model of her calibre, there is little chance she’d be caught short without a and a hat – she will know full well the damaging effects of the sun, which not only breaks down collagen, causes pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles, but – more seriously – can also lead to skin cancer.

The trick is to fake it with make-up. One of the easiest ways to create beautifully bronzed skin – that looks naturally sun-kissed, rather than loaded with product – is to apply and in a specific area of the face. If you look closely at Kaia’s skin, you’ll notice that her forehead, bridge of the nose and cheekbones are all flushed with colour – these are the areas where the sun naturally hits.

To recreate this effect, make-up artists advise buffing a powder bronzer into the skin in these areas, then melting a cream blush or tint over the cheekbones, up and across the nose, and down the other side again. This technique is called and it mimics an outdoorsy glow, something that – if you were to forgo sun protection – would naturally build with sun exposure.
