LECLAIRE — When you're walking down South Cody Road in LeClaire, you might notice a bright new addition to the storefronts that line the street. Shelly's Sweet Sensations, with its cheerful blue-and-yellow front door and pink shutters, is the newest addition to the area, selling made-from-scratch baked goods, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and more. But Shelly's doesn't shift to grayscale when you step inside.
Visitors are greeted by the pink walls and blue door trim that frame the menus and display cases. "We just wanted something that was bright and fun," said co-owner Josh Jackson. "Just wanted a happy place for people to come and enjoy a cheery space.
" Shelly's originally opened for business last year, sharing a space with ice cream parlor Here's the Scoop, around the corner on Jones Street. The need for relocation arose when they realized the existing space was too small for them. Jackson said that with the move came the desire to expand the menu to include breakfast and lunch, and the eatery opened on June 18, with an official ribbon cutting on June 28.
Since then, Jackson said, co-owner and business namesake Shelly Wheat has kept up with orders, with the bulk of the menu being homemade. She's even embraced the expanded menu by adding a daily special option. "We strive to to make the best desserts possible, and we put a lot of pride into it," Jackson said.
"We're just kind of glad to see another option for the citizens of LeClaire and the surrounding communities, for.
