EAST MOLINE — If you've driven down Avenue of the Cities near Kennedy Drive recently, you might have noticed a new structure being built. In the coming months, drive-up coffee chain Scooter's will be taking up the real estate at 4133 Kennedy Drive. The build is part of a planned expansion throughout the Quad-Cities and beyond.
There are just over 800 stores nationwide, and this will be the second Scooter's Coffee location in the immediate area, with the closest store in Milan. "We are a franchise of 18 Scooter's currently," said district manager Laurie Martinez. "A Davenport location will probably be next year at some point.
We're going to do Grinnell, Iowa, which is a few hours away from here, probably at the end of the year. So by the end of the year we're looking to be at 20 Scooter's." If you're unfamiliar with the Scooter's format, they're typically drive-thru only, referred to within the company as "kiosks.
" A mobile app allows customers to order ahead, and the menu expands beyond coffee to encompass smoothies, teas and "blender" drinks, which are reminiscent of milkshakes. Martinez said that while quality is a priority, they also focus on speed. "We have targets of two and a half minutes; out of our 18 locations, the majority of them are right around two minutes and 30 seconds to two minutes and 45 seconds," she said.
Sept. 9 is the planned opening day for the new East Moline location. For more information, visit MOLINE — Marketplace at 2500 has enjoyed exponential.
