This is in response to the article regarding the proposed quarry in Dresden (“Dresden Planning Board accused of violating town policy in approving quarry site,” May 11). The article says of Gary Nash of Richmond, who was the only person to speak in favor of the project, that “Nash compared the noise and situation at Moose Mountain in Richmond, which started as quarry pit but has not caused any problems in town. Nash also is Tribbet’s grandfather.

” This is a painful situation for myself and many others in Dresden. I have known Gary for more than 40 years and have always had a good relationship with him. He is a successful businessman and has donated much time and money to improve the spirit and physical beauty of Richmond.

Gary has made this comparison between the Moose Mountain Entertainment Center on previous occasions. The problem with this comparison, however, is that the mountain is situated in an area of Richmond zoned as Highway Commercial. The mountain was never designed as a quarry.

The proposed quarry in Dresden, on the other hand, is in an area designated as Rural Residential. A Rural Residential zone is established to preserve the rural character, scenic beauty, and tranquility of the area. A quarry is fundamentally incompatible with these objectives due to its heavy commercial nature, noise, dust and heavy traffic.

If Moose Mountain had been proposed for a residential section of Richmond, the last thing I would do would be to go to any hearings in Richmo.
