A new by-election may be held in Whitby’s West Cliff ward after Nigel Pyman, an unopposed candidate, declined to take his seat on Whitby Town Council .

The returning officer declared Mr Pyman the unopposed winner but since then he has “declined the appointment, and a vacancy now exists”.
