Kevin Christie, aged 40, from Park Road, Portadown appeared via video link from Maghaberry Prison before Craigavon Magistrates Court on Friday on a number of charges. Christie is accused of attempted sexual communication with a child and the improper use of public electronic communications between May 12, 2023 and September 29, 2023.
Advertisement Advertisement A prosecutor told the court that a full file was due on May 27 this year but it still hasn’t appeared. She asked that the matter be deferred for four weeks, until July 5, for the prosecution to ‘expedite’ the full file. Christie’s barrister Mr Conor Lunney urged that the file be expedited and urged that the matter be revisited in one week.
"Mr Christie was granted bail originally but we couldn’t perfect bail because of unsuitable bail addresses. He is a man who suffers from learning difficulties. We are going to put forward again his mother’s address which is in Portadown.
"We understand the police originally objected to that for his own personal safety reasons. But in the circumstances, he is struggling somewhat in prison. We are going to ask the police to look again at that address.
If there still is a position that police don’t approve of that address, I am going to ask Your Worship to adjudicate on the suitableness of it,” said Mr Lunney. District Judge Michael Ranagha.
