The museum and art gallery in a historic but working South Shore Line station at 525 S. Broadway at U.S.

12 will hang "Learning the Land: Stewarding Beauty Paintings by Joel Sheesley." It opens Friday and runs through Aug.11.

An opening reception will take place from 5-7 p.m. on July 12.

"Over two years and in all four seasons, plein-air artist extraordinaire Joel Sheesley visited Shirley Heinze Land Trust nature preserves and Beverly Shores properties to create a collection of 15 paintings," the museum said in a press release. "These works make up 'Learning the Land: Stewarding Beauty,' an upcoming exhibit at The Depot. The exhibit is a visually stunning reflection of the wide array of landscapes preserved by Shirley Heinz and the Beverly Shores community.

" Sheesley will give an artist lecture from 4-5 p.m. on July 12 at the Beverly Shores Administration Building across the street from the Depot.

He'll also give an artist lecture and guided hike from 10 a.m. to 1 p.

m. on Aug. 10 at the Meadowbrook Nature Preserve, 109 W 700 N, Valparaiso.
