SUMMERVILLE — Pat Duncan’s new 40,000-square-foot business isn’t just a place to play one of the country’s fastest-growing sports . The venue with nine outdoor courts is a restaurant first and foremost, the owner said. And true to its name, The Pickle Bar offers eight types of house-made pickles, from spicy dills to vinegar-softened jalapeños.
“We view ourselves as a bar/restaurant that happens to have pickleball courts,” said Duncan, who opened The Pickle Bar in December 2023. “We pride ourselves on our food and beverage first.” Leading those efforts is Roger Thomas, who’s churning out blistered romaine salads, grilled chicken with Hoppin’ John, loaded french fries, pork cutlet sandwiches and more.
Story continues below Thomas, Duncan and the rest of The Pickle Bar’s ownership group want the establishment’s food to be tasty and affordable. The goal is for a family of four to be able to play and eat for less than $100, Duncan said. The Pickle Bar is open 8 a.
