Ahead of the Pista Sa Nayon festival, two Philippine celebrities took a moment to meet local media and express their thoughts about Guam. Philippine celebrities Sharon Regis and Iñigo Pascual are here to participate in the 70th anniversary of the Filipino Community on Guam, which put on the largest cultural festival on Saturday at the Governor Joseph Flores Beach Park in Tumon. For Regis, this was her fourth visit to Guam, while it was Pascual’s first.
“This is my fourth time being here but my first time doing this major, major festival here in Guam. So I am very excited also to see Visaya here in Guam,” Regis said. The last time Regis was in Guam was in 2008, this trip she noticed a lot has changed since the early 2000s.
“A lot of hotels, new hotels here on Guam and you know, the Filipinos are still very hospitable and accommodating. The change, probably, is (that) Filipinos get more rich,” she said. “Still, you know being with the Filipino channel, internationally because I am from eastern Texas, I always feel at home here, (even when) I go in other countries like (the) USA.
” For Pascual, his first visit to Guam was not only a chance to celebrate the Filipino culture in Guam but also to connect with family. “It’s my first time and I am super excited to be here. I actually have family here on Guam, so to be able to visit is something super special,” Pascual said.
Pascual shared that his cousin Benjamin Alvarez grew up in Guam, which piqued his interest .
