Only a ‘small group’ of people may be eligible for an ‘indefinite award’ with no ADP review date. The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that there are currently 218,859 people living in Scotland receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP). All of these claimants will move automatically in stages to Adult Disability Payment (ADP) before the end of 2025.

ADP will be paid on the same day as PIP and there will be no break in payments during the move to the Social Security Scotland IT system. Letters are sent to people around three months before the move explaining what happens during the transfer and the exact date their PIP will switch to ADP .
After the move has been completed, Social Security Scotland will send another letter confirming the transfer has been completed, the amount of ADP you will receive and when your review will be conducted. If you were due a review of your PIP with DWP around the time of the move to ADP, Social Security Scotland will carry out the review after the transfer. People on PIP with an ongoing ‘light touch’ award may be given an ‘indefinite award’ when they move to ADP, which may not have a review date.
