Managed Migration Notices will be sent to those on Income-related Employment and Support Allowance during July. People on legacy benefits in Scotland are being urged to prepare for the latest Universal Credit shake-up as Managed Migration Notices arrive through letterboxes across the country. Advice Direct Scotland, which runs the national advice service, said households should prepare for changes as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) invites more people to move to the single-payment system.

Universal Credit is gradually replacing six benefits currently being administered on an older IT system. These include Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit , Child Tax Credit and Housing Benefit. It’s crucial that people do not miss the deadline to apply for Universal Credi t on the Migration Notice as failing to do so could result in payments being stopped - this is typically a three-month application window.

Under the latest phase, those currently receiving Income-related Employment Support Allowance with Child Tax Credits will be sent a Migration Notice this month. Those unable to apply for Universal Credit by the deadline can request an extension from the DWP, provided they do so before the specified date in their letter.
