Birth: 1943 Death: 2024 Penelope Marion Moglen died June 12 at Marin General Hospital surrounded by her children. She was 80.Penny was born September 26, 1943 in Cobourg, Ontario, the third of five children to Reginald and Marion Stuart.
She grew up on the family’s dairy farm and loved spending time with her dad caring for their animals and riding horses. She and her dad would sit on the porch together in the evenings belting out Frank Sinatra songs.She left her hometown to attend McGill University’s Royal Victoria School of Nursing in Montreal.
With a spirit of adventure and her nursing degree in hand, she moved to San Francisco in 1968. She worked her way up to head nurse of the Intensive Care Unit at UCSF’s Mt. Zion Hospital.
There she fell in love with a handsome young surgical resident named Leslie Moglen. They wed in 1972 in San Francisco and were married for 42 years. They had five children, whom they raised in Mill Valley.
Penny warmly welcomed all who walked into her bustling house. She enjoyed hosting and sitting around a table with friends and family almost every night.Penny loved the piano and played a beautiful Moonlight Sonata.
She believed firmly in justice, including for animals. She loved to laugh, loved to dance and loved raising her brood. She was a devoted tennis mom and liked to play, especially doubles.
