A 'beautiful' toddler has died just days after having her tonsils removed in a routine operation. Aliyah Yugovich, three, died on Sunday after her parents Jess and Josh were tragically left to switch off her life support. On Friday 28 June, Aliyah was taken in to God Murdoch Hospital in Perth, Australia for a tonsillectomy.

The common surgical procedure is said to have gone well, and she was discharged the following day. On Monday 1 July, Jess took Aliya to the emergency department at the hospital with flu -like symptoms and a fever. She was then admitted and diagnosed with Influenza A, before being discharged on Wednesday.

But three days later, Aliyah suffered a new medical episode and she was rushed to hospital again, this time in an ambulance. The toddler was given CPR, and was placed in a coma in hospital. She was then left on life support in the Paediatric Critical Care Unit of Perth Children’s Hospital.

By Saturday night, scans and an EEG found there was no brain activity. She died on Sunday morning. Mum Ms Yugovich told the West Australian newspaper that she believes hospital staff did everything they could to save Aliyah, though she and her husband also suggested to a television station that they had witnessed medics under pressure in the hospital.

A coroner's report will be provided in the coming days. The Government of Western Australia's Child and Adolescent Health Service said a full examination of Aliyah’s presentation and care would also be undertaken. A GoF.
