Keir Starmer was grilled by Nick Robinson on BBC's Panorama today (Image: BBC) Sir Keir Starmer was grilled by BBC 's Nick Robinson this evening during a special screening of Panorama - but many viewers felt the questioning didn't go his way. Starmer looked visibly tense and uncomfortable at times, as Robinson blasted him for NHS improvements which he said represented just one percent of the budget. Ripping into his manifesto, he told him he thought the proposed changes were "very small" and didn't go far enough, only for Starmer to fire back: "I don't accept that they're very small!" He insisted that he'd set out a "bold plan for growth".
However, Robinson dismissed his promise to make an extra two million NHS appointments available to the public per year. "There were 150 million appointments last year so two million extra isn't much - it isn't even one percent of the budget," he exclaimed. Starmer hit back that it was a "first step, a down payment" - but Robinson, and many viewers at home, remained unconvinced.
"Starmer being exposed for the repulsive, lying, establishment tool he is #Panorama," one wrote on Twitter. Another predicted: "That SHOULD be 'The Kiss Of Death' for #KeirStarmer." A third blasted that the Labour hopeful "doesn’t even have any ideology, he just wants power".
