She was born in London on April 27, 1976. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she started her career as a stage actress in productions such as Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sally landed a supporting role in Vera Drake in 2004 and took the lead in Happy-Go-Lucky in 2008, before going on to win several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture and the Silver Bear for Best Actress.
She's also got multiple film credits to her name such as: Cassandra's Dream, Blue Jasmine, Made in Dagenham, Paddington, Maudie, Paddington 2, Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Wonka. Sally played the role of Mrs Mary Brown in the Paddington films. She is the mother figure who takes Paddington in along with the rest of her family.

It has been announced that Sally will not be returning to her role of Mrs Brown in the third instalment of the Paddington franchise.
