SHELBY COUNTY, TN (SCG) — The Shelby County Office of Education and Youth Services recognized 15 local summer camps participating in the Shelby County Youth Summer Camp Scholarship Program. This program will provide 1,300 youth free summer camps to keep them engaged, active, and safe this summer. Now in its third year, the Shelby County Summer Camp Program supports local youth’s physical health, emotional well-being, and educational growth by offering free camp experiences.

Last year, nearly 600 youth applied for the program. This year, 15 summer camps have been awarded $12,000 each to provide scholarships for over 1,300 children and youth across Shelby County. The diverse camps participating in 2024 will provide youth with opportunities to engage in STEM, reading/literacy, music, outdoor adventures, mentorship, and more.

Additionally, this year, the program is expanding through a partnership with the Aging Commission to include free scholarships for grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren, to send their children to summer camp. The camps selected for the 2024 Shelby County Summer Camp Grants are: Beautiful City, Emmanuel Center, Inc., Heal the Hood Foundation of Memphis, Arts Leadership Camp, Harmonic South String Orchestra Metro Baptist Church, Project Stand, Girls Inc.
