To honor the message of “Come From Away” and lift people up during a time of crisis, OPAS has partnered with a local nonprofit All Heart Incorporated for its Teacher Closet Initiative. “Come From Away” follows the true story of 7,000 stranded passengers in a small town in Newfoundland after the events on Sept. 11, 2001.
Although nerves were running high, the small-town community came together to make sure passengers felt welcomed, creating friendships and relationships that endured the hardships to follow. "This musical inspires with its story of everyday people coming together to help strangers from all over the world. The citizens of Gander, Newfoundland, welcomed thousands of people stranded in their tiny Canadian town during a tumultuous time in our history.
” OPAS executive director Anne Black said in a statement. “During the run of this important piece of theater, we wanted to create an opportunity for our community to ‘pay it forward’ in its own way. That’s why we are thrilled to partner with local nonprofit All Heart Incorporated for its Teacher Closet Initiative.
” All Heart Incorporated is a local nonprofit organization with a goal of hosting local events and initiatives to create a positive change in the community. For the upcoming production of “Come From Away,” All Heart Incorporated will collect items for the organization’s Teacher Closet Initiative where local educators can grab needed school supplies donated from the community.
