Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the anime “One Piece” was one of its biggest success stories of late, the streamer recently revealing it was the top-rating Netflix original series on the service in the back half of last year. A quick renewal for a second season just two weeks after it launched was no surprise. With the anime still running, there’s enough material for a good ten seasons of the show if Netflix wanted to do it.

Filming on the second season is set to commence shortly in South Africa, but a quote from a new interview with actor Brashaad Mayweather has gotten people excited and confused about what exactly it is they are filming. Mayweather starred as Patty in the first season, one of the main cooks at the Baratie restaurant. Asked about a potential return of his character by , he says: “Hopefully we’ll see if they flash back to its because they’re filming two seasons – season two and three – back to back starting soon.

So we’ll see what happens.” If true that’s surprising. Officially Netflix has only indicated it has handed out an order for a second season – but admittedly haven’t indicated how many episodes that season will run.

The new season is expected to adapt the entire “Arabasta” arc of the manga which would suggest it will need more episodes than the eight the first season had in order to tell its story. Some suggest this could mean a splitting of the season into two parts. Others suggest the actor got confused with eithe.
