The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) celebrated Olympic Day 2024 on Sunday at Morodok Techo National Stadium, with 300 participants, including 200 students and 100 Cambodian national athletes, taking part in a three-kilometre race around the stadium. NOCC sees the event as an opportunity to introduce young children to various sports. Every year, all member nations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), including Cambodia, celebrate Olympic Day as a way to honour the ideals of the Olympic Games.

This year’s Olympic Day is particularly significant, as it falls ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris. With enthusiasm rising, competitors, spectators and the entire Olympic community all over the world are looking forward to a new era of the Olympic Games, which begin on July 26. During opening his remarks on Olympic Day 2024, Thong Khon, senior minister and president of the NOCC, called on all children, youth, students and athletes to join the movement “A Young Person Should Play At Least One Sport” to develop high-quality human capital and health, which are indispensable factors for economic and social development.

“Olympic Day aims to promote and develop Olympic values among youth and society. Separately, the NOCC worked with young people to use the Olympic Day to make the world a better place. This is an opportunity to learn and understand the Olympic philosophy,” he said.
