A nursery nurse has been convicted of a baby girl's manslaughter after strapping her face down on to a bean bag for more than an hour-and-a-half. Genevieve Meehan, who was only nine-months-old was tightly swaddled and covered by 37-year-old Kate Roughley, who was supposed to be caring for her at Tiny Toes nursery. Roughley was caught on CCTV appearing to have 'taken against' Genevieve and she was heard telling the baby - affectionally known as Gigi by her family - to 'stop your whinging'.

"Genevieve if we had any chance of being friends, you just blew it", Roughly was later heard saying to the tot, reports MirrorOnline. Genevieve was found blue and unresponsive on May 9, 2022, after Roughley had put her in a cot face down, swaddled her in a blanket and with a blanket pulled over her. Visibility was restricted when the defendant placed a sheet over the further end of the cot.

The baby appeared to be fighting the position by moving her head from side to side and lifting her legs.

Roughley covered her with a blanket, leaving Genevieve virtually immobilised and face down from 1.35pm to 3.12pm.
