A medical expert has explained exactly when and how much sun cream you should be wearing. Skincare experts and beauty lovers often say that we should be applying SPF to our skin every day. When we apply sun cream it can reduce your risk of developing skin cancer, plus it also helps prevent skin ageing, sagging, and age spots, reports The Skin Cancer Foundation .

The World Health Organization says that even on days when the weather is overcast, 80 percent of the sun's UV rays can still penetrate light through clouds and reach your skin. But an NHS doctor weighed in with a slightly different take. He says that some of us don't need to wear SPF every day – and explained why.

Dr Karan Raj, who has 5.3million TikTok followers and shares his top tips for a healthy lifestyle on his page, said: "Your skin colour will determine the degree or risk benefit relationship with sun expose and if/when you need to cream up those cheeks." Speaking about why some people should wear sun cream every day, Dr Raj said: "It also depends why you're wearing sunscreen.

Is it to reduce your risk of skin cancer or to limit photo ageing? Or to limit photodermatitis in conditions like vertigo, lupus rosacea?" He added if "it's for a photosensitive condition or limit photo ageing you should probably wear sunscreen, no matter your skin tone." But if you're just concerned about lowering your risk of skin cancer, you can be more selective about wearing sunscreen, the medical expert explained. He commented: ".
