From rural Minnesota to festivals and headline shows in North America and Europe, via a down-to-Earth English university experience, Ber ’s last few years have been a wild ride. As the impact of her newest EP ‘Room For You’ continues to spread, the artist reflects on the journey she’s taken to reach her happiest place yet. “I never went to a music festival until I played one, which was really wild!” says Ber, speaking with a combination of relaxation and infectious enthusiasm as she begins to share her musical journey.
“It was South by Southwest,” she casually adds. For those watching her journey from the outside, this feels like a rapid rise: from a viral TikTok collaboration on ‘Meant to Be’ with Charlie Oriain in 2021, via that SXSW show as well as US support slots for Sigrid in 2022, to her third EP in May this year, and playlisting on BBC Radio 1. “It feels fast to me as well,” Ber tells me.
“I didn’t know I was going to put music out and be an artist until 2021. When I was growing up I wanted to be on Broadway — I didn’t know I was going to be here doing this, at all. And it took a lot of convincing!” “’Meant To Be’ was a really beautiful moment that skyrocketed and put me in front of a lot of people.
I’ve managed to maintain a lot of those people and play shows for them. I’ve also seen really quick growth in my hometown, which has been amazing. Minneapolis has been so key .
.. And when I get to come over here it’s cool – I.
