Comprehensive Healthcare clients now have access to a new layer of support and health care in the form of a recently opened walk-in clinic on the organization’s main Yakima campus. The costs associated with opening the clinic, mainly remodeling part of the Comprehensive offices and hiring new staff, were covered by a $4 million federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Comprehensive Healthcare is a private nonprofit that provides mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.
The clinic is at 402 S. Fourth Ave. Dr.
Frank Garner, chief medical office for Comprehensive, said that in the course of daily operations some patients come in needing medical attention, even if the reason for their visit is related to other services such as counseling or homeless support. “Ultimately, we will do everything that a walk-in or urgent care clinic would do. We’re not going to be doing abscess revisions or minor surgeries like that,” Garner said.
