Monday, May 27, 2024 Indian pilgrims arriving at Jeddah Airport for Hajj now enjoy a much smoother and quicker journey to Makkah thanks to the Haramain High-Speed Train. This year, approximately 32,000 Indian Hajis will benefit from this high-speed rail service, a significant upgrade from the traditional bus transportation. This change has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Consulate General of India in Jeddah and Saudi authorities.
Previously, pilgrims relied on buses, which involved longer travel times and less comfort. The introduction of the high-speed train service, which can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, significantly cuts travel time in half, offering a more comfortable and efficient journey. This enhancement in pilgrimage logistics is expected to greatly improve the overall experience for the pilgrims.
The inaugural journey of this new service took place on May 26 and was attended by prominent officials including Indian Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan and Consul General Mohd Shahid Alam. These officials accompanied the first group of Indian pilgrims on the train from Jeddah Airport to Makkah, marking a historic event for both Indian and Saudi authorities.
