Grand Island's Amazon distribution center has opened in the Platte Valley Industrial Park, in the old FedEx Ground location. Amazon refers to the center as a last-mile facility. It is Amazon's first facility in Central Nebraska and its fourth in Nebraska.

Grand Island's Amazon distribution center has opened in the Platte Valley Industrial Park, at 4201 Gold Core Road. "The Grand Island last-mile facility opened fully staffed, as employees will receive and prepare inventory for delivery, use technology to sort, scan and prepare orders, and transport pallets and packages to ready them for delivery for customers," says a news release. It is located at 4201 Gold Core Road, on the east side of Gold Core Road and south of West Schimmer Drive.

The facility is being leased by Amazon. Amazon refers to the Grand Island center as a last-mile facility. The company opened the center "in response to customer demand.

The facility will help facilitate the last mile of the delivery stage, where goods are sorted at a fulfillment facility and loaded onto delivery vehicles to be sent to customers," says the news release. "As we begin operations, we have approximately 50 employees at this facility with the possibility of reaching up to 75 in the future," Amazon spokesman Andy DiOrio wrote in an email to the Independent. “Amazon is excited to be a part of the Grand Island and surrounding community as a good employer and increase the capacity of customers receiving packages in this region,” sit.
