Every week Netflix releases a list of its top 10 releases on the platform, currently two releases on the list are from the 2010s. While it is a surprise the actors in these films are now some of the biggest stars. Back then they were up and rising stars and supporting characters now they are Margot Robbie who produced and led Barbie and Ryan Reynolds who single-handedly has turned adult superhero comedy into a niche genre of its own.
The two films on the list are Focus and Safe House, which have some similarities, including its release in the early 2010s. The leading stars of both films are still some of the biggest actors of all time, including Will Smith and Denzel Washington. Their stories explore crime thrillers with different subgenres.
While Focus led by Will Smith and Margot Robbie is a comedy-drama about a con man trying to pull off the biggest con of all time, the later Safe House explore the story of an unqualified CIA agent having to take in one of the biggest criminals he has ever come across. Both genres have often been looked at with a very non-consequential comic perspective since 2020. Crime-based comedy dramas are rare let alone one where the story takes itself seriously.
Focus was written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa and is currently streaming on Netflix. The film after its release was highly praised for its performances at the time, including Robbie who was often referred to as a newcomer. It is bound to give her fans a chance to experience .
