Kangaroos legend David King has urged the Giants to “look in the mirror” or risk being the most talented team he’s seen miss finals. GWS’ mid-season slump continued in a 16-point away loss to Adelaide on the weekend to see the Giants slide out of the top eight for the first time in 2024. It comes despite Adam Kingsley’s side opening its season 5-0 before dropping seven of its past 10 games to fall to 8-7 overall.
“I just think when the GWS Giants look in the mirror, they see the most beautiful team ...
they’re super positive and ripping people and very open as a football cub,” King began on Fox Footy’s . “But everything is fine and their best is the best. I just wonder if they look in the mirror tomorrow, do they still feel the same? Because I think they need a reality check.
“I think right now this group, this line-up, this glut of talent would the most disappointing glut of talent to miss the finals that I can recall. “That includes teams like that 2008 Hawks that didn’t make finals the next year, but had the success. These guys haven’t had that success, so why the drop off across the board?” King was particularly critical of the Giants’ planning towards Crows star Izak Rankine, who dominated Saturday night’s clash including racking up 21 disposals, seven score involvements and 2.
2 in the first half alone. The dual premiership Kangaroo showed vision from early in the game where Rankine was unaccounted for moving between midfield and forward.
