A recent study by Wise, a leading global tech firm specializing in international monetary movements, underscores the escalating role of cricket in promoting social ties, cultural involvement, and economic interactions among Indians globally. Conducted among over a thousand individuals residing in India, the study discovered that cricket-centric activities, such as viewing and discussing matches, ranked third (39%) among the preferred ways for Indian participants to maintain connections with their overseas relatives and friends.
Other popular engagements included culinary exchanges like sharing new recipes (42%), remitting funds for festive occasions (40%), and swapping music suggestions (39%). These findings emphasize the significance of communal experiences, particularly as the prevalence of Indians with overseas connections increases. Notably, 77% of those surveyed have relatives abroad, with 61% noting the relocation of three to four family members or friends internationally within the last five years.
Financial Ties that Bind The study also highlighted the crucial role of financial transactions in fortifying familial and cultural ties across borders. Approximately 55% of participants send money internationally at least monthly, primarily for gifts on special occasions such as birthdays (49%), educational purposes (17%), and everyday expen.
