NBC announcer John Schriffen produced an epic rant as a Chicago White Sox game ended in controversial fashion. Schriffen is in his first year as the play-by-play man for the White Sox on NBC Sport Chicago, but his name will certainly spread after this. The White Sox had rallied from 8-2 behind to trail 8-6 against the Baltimore Orioles in the bottom of the ninth in Thursday's MLB game when the incident occured.

After Baltimore’s Yennier Canó struck out Zach DeLoach for the first out of the inning, the Orioles called upon closer Craig Kimbrel to end the game. Kimbrel got Andrew Benintendi to pop out for what was seemingly the second out of the inning. Only, there was more to it.

Benintendi popped the ball up to Baltimore shortstop Gunnar Henderson, prompting an infield fly to be called. Despite that, Henderson caught the ball. There was briefly some confusion in the stadium - and indeed the commentary booth - as it became apparent the umpires were saying the game was over.

Third base umpire Junior Valentine ruled that Chicago’s Andrew Vaughn, who was on second base, interfered with Henderson. Even though it was an infield fly and Henderson caught the ball, the interference was an additional out, which ended the game. Schriffen was incandescent, and was in the mood to let viewers know until he eventually joked about wanting to keep his job.

“No. They can’t end the game like this. No way,” Schriffen said.

“Adrian Johnson, as the crew chief, you gotta take over here.
