It was a long road from the news that Muscatine would be impacted by flooding this week to being able to hold the annual celebration of the country’s independence. Even though there have been several changes from the traditional locations of events, Mayor Brad Bark, also president and CEO of the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the events will continue despite the high flood waters. From parades to festivals and musical performances, the city of Muscatine will once again go all out as it celebrates the anniversary of the country’s independence in 2024. “People should come out for the kids,” Bark said. “I know my kids and I’ve talked with other people who have kids who love the parade.
They are excited we did not cancel it. People should also come out just to show their appreciation for the United States with all that is happening." On Thursday, July 4, events will kick off at 9 a.
m. with the Musser Public Library Kid’s Parade. The parade will start at Second Street before traveling to Musser Public Library.
There is no required dress code for those wishing to participate in the parade, but kids and families are invited to dress up as their favorite book character or wear red, white and blue.
