A mural dedicated to , the teen girl fatally knifed after rejecting her killer’s advances in March was unveiled outside her Brooklyn home on Saturday afternoon. Dozens gathered in a courtyard at the in Boerum Hill for the dedication of the commemorative mural by artist Tracy Molloy titled, “Their Light Remains.” It depicts a large red phoenix and is a remembrance of the slain 19-year-old and other community members who have died.
“It’s crazy. She did everything I did, right. I did it wrong, but she did it right,” said Spain’s saddened father Steven.
“She was a beautiful little girl. She did hair, she liked to rap. She was a very sweet girl,” said resident Valerie Bell, 64.
“She’s truly missed, deeply missed.” Many residents, spanning several generations, volunteered their time to help paint the large mural, Molloy said. , an anti-violence organization based in Brooklyn organized the mural.
