Mum Lauren breastfeeding her son Bowie and daughter Tigerlily (Image: SWNS) A mother continued to breastfeed her son until he was six years old, even throwing a 'bye bye boobie' party to mark the end of their breastfeeding journey. Lauren McLeod, 31, initially planned to stop breastfeeding her son Bowie, now seven, when he was two years old, but he wasn't ready to give it up. Consequently, she ended up breastfeeding him and his younger sister Tigerlily, four, simultaneously until she and Bowie mutually decided to stop last year.
However, she continues to breastfeed Tigerlily twice daily, insisting that she will only stop when her daughter is "ready". While both Bowie and Tigerlily started consuming solid foods and water from six months old, Lauren views breastfeeding as an "added bonus" and has continued with the feeds. She holds the belief that breastmilk serves as a potent immunity booster and provides great comfort.
Lauren, who works as a doula, shared: "Bowie finally finished breastfeeding last year after he turned six. I wanted one last feed with him and made a cake saying 'bye bye boobies'. It was the end of an era, and it was very emotional, but we both knew it was time.
