Tuesday, May 28, 2024 Explore ‘Risk Landscape’ at Mudam Luxembourg, a speculative look at the future curated by Sarah Beaumont, featuring Agnieszka Kurant’s work. Mudam Luxembourg – Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art is excited to present “Risk Landscape,” an exhibition by Agnieszka Kurant (born 1978, Łódź, Poland). This exhibition features a collection of five new projects and several recent pieces, delving into the concept of the future as a speculative element.

It offers a novel perspective on how predictions can shape—but not completely determine—the dynamics of nature, the economy, and political landscapes. The experimental works by the New York-based Polish artist explore the unpredictable evolution of life, technology, and societal phenomena, highlighting the limitations of Artificial Intelligence in forecasting complex, nonlinear developments. “Risk Landscape” examines how the future is commodified by diverse technologies and sectors, ranging from finance and insurance to lottery and fortune-telling, while envisioning alternative futures influenced by various worldviews.

Kurant comments: ‘One of my points of departure is the fact that today the future is being turned into speculative real estate. This exhibition is about the traces of the future in the present and the technologies that are speculating about or exploiting various kinds of futures.’ Starting with the site-specific piece “Future (Invention)” (2024) situated in the glass.
