BRISTOL – Mr. James G. Wise, 73, of Bristol, entered into eternal rest June 7, 2024, after a three-year courageous battle with cancer.

Jimmy, as he was affectionately known, was the son of the late James F. Wise and Dora Wise-Jenkins of Waterbury. He was raised in Clarksville, Va.

, by his loving and adoring grandmother, Mrs. Lucy Johnson – (Mamma). In his youth, Jimmy caddied at the Kinderton Country Golf Club where he was mentored by professional golfers.

He returned to Waterbury and became a member of the John F. Kennedy High School golf team. As he matured, James became an accomplished golfer with a sincere passion for the sport.

He toured throughout the United States and the Caribbean, and he received many awards in amateur and professional tournaments. His voracity and talent inspired others to get involved in the game of golf. Jimmy encouraged younger athletes and advocated for diversity and inclusion.

Jim was one of the original members of the Bobby Bonds Golf Classic in which scholarship funds were raised to assist low-income youth from Waterbury with college expenses. With his passing, Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of humor, kindness, generosity, and service. Jimmy was deeply rooted in his Christian faith.

His praise of God was demonstrated by his acts, his worship, and through servanthood within his family and community. He was an active member of Beulah A.M.

E. Zion Church in Bristol, where he served on the usher board, trustee board, budget and finance committee.
