Tragedy struck a Northumberland village last weekend and two teenage boys sadly lost their lives after getting into difficulty in the River Tyne. On Saturday, Northumbria Police received a report of concern for the welfare of two teenage boys who were in the river near the bridge at Ovingham, shortly after 3.30pm.
Emergency and rescue services were immediately sent to the area, however, 14-year-old David Radut, from Newcastle, sadly died at the scene. The second boy, Aras Rudzianskas, 13, also from Newcastle , was taken to hospital. But despite the efforts of medical staff, he tragically passed away on Tuesday.

"Since Saturday, our thoughts and those of the wider community have been with the families and friends of those affected. We would ask that the public continue to respect the privacy of the families both online and in the community.
" Residents of Ovingham, a usually quiet village in the Tyne Valley area of south Northumberland , spoke to Chronicle Live about the horrific incident. One such person is Monty Jess, who was walking his dog Bob alongside the river.
